The Classics
High schools should not require students to read the "classics". High schools should require the students to read whatever material they have prepared for the year. Some students nor some teachers enjoy reading the "classics". In the text it states "I also believe that requiring students to read books they cannot understand or appreciate is a quick road to extinguishing the fire of literacy". This quote explains that if students do not find the book enjoyable, but are forced to read it, they might end up not liking literature overall. Meaning, if they're required to read the classics and they strongly dislike it, it might make reading/English class an unpleasant experience overall.
