Pixar movie and Hero's Journey
Think about your favorite Pixar movie. How does the main character go through the Hero’s Journey? What are the connections?
My favorite Pixar movie is "Coco". The main character, Miguel, goes through the Hero's Journey because he has a desire for something, so he has to cross a threshold to a new world to get it. Miguel's desire is to listen to music and make his own music but it's banned in his family because of an incident that happened years ago. Miguel crosses a threshold to a place called Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). In Dia de los Muertos, Miguel sees all of his family members that have passed away. Miguel needs to return to his own world by sunrise, or else he will be trapped in Dia de los Muertos forever. In order for Miguel to return, he needs his family's blessing. They will give him the blessing under one condition, he gives up his desire for music forever. Miguel has to go search for a family member that will give him the blessing, without any conditions he does not feel comfortable agreeing to. The connections are that the main person that goes through the Hero's Journey, has a want/desire for something. They also cross to a different threshold to go through their journey.
